Chatsworth House & Bakewell
A holiday highlight must be a visit to the magnificent home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire - Chatsworth House. Passed down through sixteen generations, the house is a treasure trove of masterpieces in art, old and modern, Rembrandt to Nash. The rooms and halls are truly breathtaking as are the glorious landscaped gardens with waterfalls, grottoes, maze and flowerbeds. We call into nearby Bakewell, an ancient market town, famous for its Puddings (not ‘tarts’ the locals would have you know).
Cromford, Matlock & The Crich Tramway Museum
Cromford, famed mill town and home of Sir Richard Arkwright, inventor of the revolutionary ‘Spinning Jenny’. Explore his historic Masser Mill and fabulous museum.
We travel on along the beautiful gorge of the River Derwent. In 1698 warm springs were discovered, centuries later the Victorians descended and created Matlock Bath, visited by royalty and made famous by Lord Byron.
Also, a glorious journey to ‘yesteryear’ as we head for Derbyshire’s award-winning Crich Tramway Museum. Enjoy unlimited tram rides in a recreated village street along the mile-long track to breathtaking views.
Eyam & The Peaks
A tour through the beautiful countryside of the Peak District National Park. Calling into Eyam to visit the Plague Museum, a fascinating and heart breaking story of a village cut off from the world during the Great Plague. We return for an afternoon to explore Buxton itself; the Pavillion Gardens, Poole’s Cavern, the Dome...or make use of the hotel spa.
